ABSTRACT
The recent report To Err is Human has highlighted the frequency of medical errors. Medical informaticists have developed tools to prevent errors of commission such as ordering the incorrect drug or ordering unnecessary tests. In other work which has received less publicity, developers have created software tools to prevent medical errors of omission. The presentation will review the studies of such tools in practice. We will focus on computerized reminders for preventive care and for medical screening tests.
