Methods in Heritability Estimation
Main Methods:
- Selection Experiment
please refer to the example of last page
- Comparison of close relatives
- Parent-Offspring regression
This is an example of different regression lines(slopes) representing different level of heretability. The slpe of the line approximates the heritability of the trait when offspring values are regressed against the average trait value in the parents.
- Twin Studies
H2=2(r(MZ)-r(DZ)). Where DZ indicates fraternal twins(they share half of their genes), MZ indicates identical twins, r is correlation.
- Sibling Comparison
Full sibling desing: Comparing similarity between siblings who share both a biological mother and a father.
Half sibling desing: Comparing similarity between siblings who share one parents with the other sibling group.
- Analysis of Variance
